Chapter 4 Miss Clayton

Siles Noël hitched on a ride.

The lady introduced herself as Angela Clayton, so Siles called her Miss Clayton.

Miss Clayton was born into a distinguished family, but she didn't reveal her family background. She came here through the introduction of a friend, but she was vague about the identity of her friend and didn't introduce them clearly.

Soon, the person Miss Clayton was waiting for appeared.

He was a tall man, about thirty years old, with an ordinary appearance. His most eye-catching features were probably the exquisite robes he was wearing and his brilliant smile.

"Welcome, my lady!" he spoke to Miss Clayton. Then he noticed the presence of Siles and asked, "Who is this?"

"Siles Noël." Siles politely introduced himself, "I am here for the same purpose as Miss Clayton."

He took out the business card he had obtained that belonged to Morton.

The man leaned over to take a look and nodded. He smiled and said, "Welcome! Mr. Noel and Miss Clayton. My name is Carol Haussmann. You can call me Carol."

Carol was an outgoing, cheerful man who was the secretary of the Historical Society and Joseph Morton's subordinate. At the same time...

Carol said mysteriously: "I am also the guide of some of the Revelators."

Miss Clayton, who remained nervous and excited, followed Carol up the spiral staircase.

Carol noticed that Siles carried a lot of things with him, so he took Siles to an empty room on the second floor to store his belongings. Then, he took the two of them to the top floor.

Siles took note of the antiquity and stateliness of the building. The dark brown sheen of the floor had a sense of sophistication and age, as if one had to be careful with every step they took.

Stepping onto such a floor and heading to the top floor of the Historical Society made Miss Clayton reveal an almost gratified expression.

Siles' expression remained calm.

He guessed that the Revelators were the "supernatural power" of this world, which was not surprising. However, could such power be obtained with just a business card?

Did this mean that the supernatural powers in this world were semi-public in nature and were endorsed by official forces?

Siles couldn't help but feel a little troubled.

What bothered him even more was that he was keenly aware that the reason he received this business card was because he mentioned his research on the literature of the Age of Silence in that antique bookshop, which led Grenfell to give him this business card.

However, the major in the Literature of the Age of Silence at Lamifa University wasn't a rare major.

The original Silas had studied this major for many years, and had never received an invitation letter from any supernatural organizations; but when he arrived, he immediately received one? This seemed a little unusual.

Did it have anything to do with his transmigration?

Or was it because...

Siles suddenly thought of the skill check he received before he discovered the antique bookstore.

He pondered thoughtfully, was it because his skill check was successful that he was able to enter the used bookstore? In other words, was it impossible for ordinary people to discover the existence of the bookstore?

Indeed, the original Silas had lived in that neighborhood for more than a month, but had never discovered the existence of that antique bookstore. With his profession, if he ever came across such an antique bookstore, he should've gone in and taken a look.

But Grenfell's Antique Bookshop never appeared in his memories.

...So, were there some kind of thresholds and prerequisites for having supernatural powers in this world?

On the way to the top floor of the Historical Society, countless questions and related associations emerged in Siles' mind. Still, the moment he stepped into the top floor, he temporarily put all of these thoughts behind him.

They came to a door at the end of a corridor covered with a maroon velvet rug.

There was a mysterious symbol on the door, which looked like an eye, but was only outlined with a few lines.

Siles felt it looked familiar, and after taking a closer look, he realized that it was the symbol of Antinum, the God of the Past and History.

In some myths and legends, as well as the teachings of the Church of Yesterday, Antinum was the recorder and witness of all past history. He knew the past, and His eyes could penetrate the fog of history.

Therefore, His symbol was an eye. To be more specific, it was a left eye.

The appearance of this symbol here made Siles perceive more clearly that the Historical Society was indeed backed by the Church of Yesterday.

Carol stopped in front of the door and smiled mysteriously. He said, "Nextyou two, don't blink."

He pushed the door open.

A peaceful blue light emanated at this moment. The scene inside the door was more ordinary than Siles had imagined, but it was also beyond Siles' expectations. Miss Clayton let out an astonished shout.

This was because they had originally thought that there would only be single room behind the door. They didn't expect that there was a huge space behind the door. There were halls, corridors, high ceilings, countless doors, and people walking around in long robes.

Carol observed their expressions and found that both Siles and Miss Clayton showed surprised expressions. The former was more mild, while the latter was more exaggerated, but they did in fact both see the space behind the door.

And so, Carol smiled genuinely: "We welcome your arrival, the... uh, whatever number of Revelators. Congratulations on becoming Revelators."

Miss Clayton couldn't help but doubt: "I became a Revelator just like this?"

"Oh, only Revelators can see this scene." Carol led them into the space behind the door. There was still a pale blue light of unknown origin lingering around their surroundings. "If it were ordinary people, they would just turn a blind eye and think that it was an ordinary archive storage room behind the door."

Only then did Miss Clayton realize what was going on. She quickly asked, "Why does a place like this exist?" She rarely ignored her formalities as she raised her finger and pointed at the high ceiling, "This place doesn't look like the original building."

"This was done by the vice president. How would I know? It's probably some kind of advanced ritual." Carol said, "By the way, the Historical Society is indeed a gathering place for Revelators. The president is responsible for matters related to ordinary people, and the vice president is responsible for matters related to Revelators."

Miss Clayton nodded, looking confused again: "Ritual? What ritual?"

Carol shrugged, with a hint of mild mockery: "That would be a secret of the Revelators. Don't fret, look at how composed Mr. Noël is!"

Miss Clayton immediately looked at Siles and noticed his calm and composed visage. She instantly felt embarrassed and coughed twice, pretending to be calm as she frowned.

Carol laughed at the lady's expressions. There were no shadows in his cheerful smiles. He said, "Okay, okay, we've arrived."

They had already passed through the crowd, who occasionally cast curious glances to them, but most of them just minded their own business. Their footsteps stopped in front of a room in the corridor. As expected, there was the pattern of Antinum's eye on the door again.

But beneath the eye, there was a string of numbers: 666.

"Oh... it's this number." Carol muttered, "No big deal, just a coincidence. At least it's easy to remember."

Carol reached out first and grabbed the door handle. Then, at his signal, Miss Clayton and Siles touched the door handle one by one. Afterwards, Carol held the door handle and seemed to sense it with his eyes.

Then he laughed: "Not bad! Exactly six people! Alright, you are the last two newcomers today, let's go."

He pushed the door open and walked in, followed by Miss Clayton and Siles.

Inside the door was a room similar to a reception room. A fireplace stood there quietly, and bookshelves were filled with books all the way up to the ceiling. The windows were bright and clean, and there were already four people sitting on the sofa in the middle of the room, drinking tea, eating snacks, or reading books.

It must be said that this bright and leisurely scene made Siles immediately feel somewhat favorable towards the so-called "Revelators."

It didn't seem like some extremely evil, mysterious supernatural power.

Noticing the three people coming in, the four people who were already in the room raised their heads.

Siles looked over and found that there were three men and one woman. The men included an anxious middle-aged man with shabby clothes, a young teenager with lively and bright eyes, and a young man with a blank expression who seemed a little impatient.

As for the lady, she was an old woman with gray hair and a benevolent gaze.

Carol sat Miss Clayton and Siles down, asked the six of them to introduce themselves to each other, and then quickly got down to business.

"You've all gathered here today, which means that you guys will form a team in the days ahead. You will learn together, advance and retreat together, help each other, and communicate with each other until you become a qualified and full-fledged Revelator, who is able to stand on your own."

Siles listened and thought, so the growth and education of people with supernatural powers in this world was in the form of a study group?

What was the criterion for judging this "until becoming" process? Combat level? The ability to handle emergencies? Psychological qualities?

Siles unconsciously expanded his thoughts, and then realized that he seemed to rely too much on the background and settings of those online novels in his previous life. He didn't know what the powers of this world was like.

While Siles was thinking, Carol continued his explanation, "And I am your guide on the path of becoming a Revelator. I will provide you with knowledge and the channels and space for your growth, as well as help you master the relevant abilities of the Revelators under safe conditions."

As he spoke, he pulled out a small object from his pocket.

It looked like a tiny book, but when Carol placed it on the coffee table in front of them, the book suddenly expanded into a very thick and ancient book under everyone's gazes.

The length and width of the book were at least fifty to sixty centimeters, and the thickness was at least as thick as two whole hand palms. This was a unique and large tome, and no one knew how Carol could shrink it into such a small book and carry it with him.

While the others stared in amazement, Carol gave his usual smile and said, "This is the knowledge you need to master in the future—completely and thoroughly master."

The six new Revelators looked at each other, and all of them showed unsure expressions.

Carol said, "The so-called Revelator is someone who uses potions and the timelines to draw power and enlightenment from the past, eventually replicating powers from the past."
